“Slow down and learn to trust the language of your body and the music of your breath. You’ll soon discover the sweet spot between the ‘too-little’ and the ‘too-much’. And in the process, you’ll discover the ‘effortless effort’ that is Yoga.”
Alison Cassidy, Kumbada.

Neena
I am excited to be a part of Melbourne Kids Yoga team.
My yoga journey started when I was of 5 years old, I use to learn yoga with my dad at home.
I am a kindergarten teacher and have been in the profession of teaching kids for the past 30 years. I started my yoga training for children with Rainbow Kids Yoga and started to incorporate yoga during group time. I saw huge benefits in the children that made me curious to learn more about yoga. This led me to complete 200 hours of Yoga Teachers Training for earning a certification in teaching Kids Yoga.
Yoga teaches children to be calm, while gaining awareness of the body’s self-control and discipline through breathing and specific body postures. It also fosters cultural competence and respect for diversity.
I strongly believe Yoga is a critical form of education that provides a range of physical, spiritual and mental relaxation in young children.

Sharean
Shahrean’s Yoga journey started at the age of 3. She was fortunate to be born into a family of Yoga practitioners and almost everything she learnt has been under the guidance of her late grandfather and mother. From the time she can remember, she has always loved practicing Yoga and looked forward to the early morning sessions with her mother before going to school. There was something about that time on the mat that just made her happy!
She has since been teaching Yoga for over 15 years and has never looked back. A mental health advocate, she completed a degree in Psychology at Monash University to support her understanding of the complexities of the mind which has greatly complimented her Yoga teachings. She is also a qualified personal trainer, has additional training in children’s Yoga from Rainbow Kids Yoga and is a registered member of Yoga Australia.
Shahrean truly believes the practice of Yoga and Mindfulness especially at a young age can offer tools to regulate our nervous system, deal with tough emotions and develop resilience.

I’m delighted to be a new member of the team at MKY. I enjoy the fun and unity that the power of play brings to each session. To me, this form of group interaction is unique to a kids yoga environment – non-competitive, free and collaborative. My classes are led with prep-readiness in mind, supporting posture, finding their voices and creating an environment that encourages growth of the individual child through expressive movement. I’ve completed over 500 hours of training with The Yoga Social and have received vocational training with Kids Yoga Ed.
